XI: Songs From the Bar

This album is the closest I’ve ever come to bottling up real life in song. These are stories overheard at the bar, lived at the bar, recovered from at the bar… and sometimes written right there on a napkin before last call. The characters are messy, honest, funny, drunk, lonely, loyal, wild, and absolutely real.

You’ll hear familiar voices in there too — like Bam Bam and Big John, who have been quietly building their own little universe in my songs and somehow find themselves stumbling into more adventures on this record. What started as a couple of names in a verse has turned into a whole cast of drinking friends with histories, inside jokes, and more than a few questionable decisions.
